Yas Island on ( Arabic : جزيرة ياس ) is an artificial island located close to Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi , United Arab Emirates. This island can be reached by land or sea. The island development project was started in 2006 by Aldar Properties (a large-scale development company) based in Abu Dhabi, with the aim of turning the island into a luxury area containing entertainment and shopping centers at an estimated cost of more than $ 40 billion. This investment is planned as a phased project which is expected to be completed in 2018.
